Odessa Development Rejected
County commissioners deny large-scale project after concerns over density and land use
Growth might feel inevitable across Tampa Bay, but this week in Odessa, it hit a wall.
A proposed large-scale residential and commercial development failed to gain approval from Hillsborough County commissioners following pushback centered around density, land use changes, and overall impact to the surrounding area.

For many residents, the decision comes as a rare pause in a region that has seen near-constant expansion.
Odessa has long positioned itself differently than areas like Wesley Chapel or Riverview, with more open land, lower density, and a quieter pace of growth. That’s exactly what residents were looking to protect, and this time, county leaders appeared to agree.
Concerns raised during discussions focused on whether the project aligned with the existing character of the area, and whether the infrastructure could realistically support additional development at that scale.
While growth continues across nearby communities, this decision signals that not every proposal is guaranteed to move forward.
For Wesley Chapel residents, it’s a reminder of how differently growth can play out depending on the area.
Just a few miles away, development continues to surge. In Odessa, at least for now, the line held.
The Real What’s Up

Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay is one of those organizations quietly making a big impact for local students.
Through hands-on programs focused on financial literacy, career readiness, and entrepreneurship, JA helps students connect what they learn in the classroom to real life. Experiences like BizTown and Finance Park give kids the chance to practice budgeting, run businesses, and make real-world decisions before they reach adulthood.
It’s all about helping students feel more prepared for what comes next.

New Dining Options Are Coming to Wesley Chapel
New dining options near I-75 signal continued retail expansion in the area

If it feels like Wesley Chapel is adding something new every time you turn around, you’re not wrong.
A new retail plaza near Wesley Chapel Boulevard and I-75 is moving forward, with several recognizable names already lined up. Among them: Olive Garden, Seasons 52, and Heartland Dental.
For locals, it’s another sign that the area’s growth is finally starting to catch up on the commercial side.
And for us, one name in particular stands out.
We’ve made more than a few trips to the Tampa location of Seasons 52 over the years, so having one closer to home is going to be a welcome addition. It’s one of those spots that feels just elevated enough for a night out, but still easy enough to make a regular go-to.
Beyond that, the mix of restaurants and services coming to this plaza reflects what Wesley Chapel is becoming. Not just a place to live, but a place where more of your everyday life can actually happen without leaving the area.
Construction is already picking up near The Grove corridor, and as these projects move forward, expect even more announcements to follow.
Because if there’s one thing Wesley Chapel has proven, it’s that once development starts, it doesn’t slow down for long.
