🚧 Morris Bridge Closed Again?

Morris Bridge Road closes March 2 for two weeks of stormwater repairs

If you drive in Wesley Chapel long enough, you start to expect it. Just when traffic feels manageable, something pops up on Morris Bridge Road again.

Now it’s another closure. Hillsborough County has announced that a portion of Morris Bridge Road north of Pictorial Park Drive will close beginning Monday, March 2 for stormwater repairs. The closure is expected to last about two weeks while crews repair drainage infrastructure beneath the roadway. Drivers will be detoured to nearby routes, including Cross Creek Boulevard and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard.

County officials say the repairs are necessary to protect the road from further damage and prevent bigger problems down the line. In Florida, heavy rain can quickly undermine pavement if stormwater systems fail, so addressing it now matters.

Still, for local drivers, this one stings. Morris Bridge is one of the key north south connectors that helps relieve pressure from Bruce B. Downs, SR 56, and I 75. When it closes, traffic does not disappear. It shifts. Commutes stretch longer, and nearby roads feel the extra volume.

In a fast-growing community, even a two-week closure can feel dramatic. If Morris Bridge is part of your routine, plan ahead and expect delays. Around here, when Morris Bridge closes, everyone feels it. 🚧

Booster Seat Law Could Expand in Florida

What the proposed age 8 requirement means for Wesley Chapel parents

If you’ve ever wrestled a booster seat into the back of your SUV in the Publix parking lot on State Road 54, you know the drill. Snacks everywhere. Kids insisting they’re “big enough.” And that quick mental calculation every parent makes before buckling up.

Now, Florida lawmakers are looking to change the rules.

A newly filed bill would require children up through age 8 to ride in a federally approved booster seat or child restraint system while in a vehicle. Right now, Florida law requires child restraints for kids up to age 5, but there is no specific booster requirement for children ages 6 to 8.

Supporters say the change is about safety. Booster seats help seat belts fit properly across a child’s chest and hips, reducing the risk of injury in a crash. Safety advocates argue that many kids are still too small for a regular seat belt to fit correctly at that age.

The proposal is still making its way through the Legislature. If passed, it would bring Florida more in line with national safety recommendations.

For parents across Wesley Chapel juggling school drop-offs, sports practice, and weekend trips down 75, this could mean a few more years of booster seat duty.

What do you think? Is 8 the right age cutoff?

That’s it for this week.
