Changes Coming Before The Hurricanes

Florida’s Governor DeSantis just signed SB 180, a new hurricane recovery law aimed at fast-tracking rebuilding after the next big storm. Here’s what residents of Wesley Chapel, and the broader Tampa suburbs should know:

🚧 What changes?

  • One-year freeze on local restrictions: If a hurricane hits within 100 miles and a federal disaster is declared, local governments can’t impose new land-use rules or construction moratoriums for one full year.

  • No permit fee hikes: Cities and counties are blocked from raising permit and inspection fees for 180 days after the state declares an emergency.

  • No forced code upgrades: If your house was built in 1980, you don’t have to update everything to meet 2025 building codes just to make repairs.

  • Faster permitting and planning: Local governments must create and publish disaster recovery guides, designate emergency contacts, approve recovery plans ahead of time, and set up debris drop-off sites.

  • Legal backing for residents: If local post-storm rules get in the way, homeowners and businesses can take them to court and recover attorney fees if they win.

  • Crane safety rules: Construction companies must secure cranes at least 24 hours before a storm hits to prevent accidents.

Breaking Ground (And Beyond)

This summer’s looking extra tasty. Whether you're craving bagels, brisket, or Brazilian steak, there’s something new heading to Wesley Chapel and the surrounding area that might just become your new go-to spot.

Here’s what’s coming:

Einstein Bros. Bagels – Slated to open in late July or early August near the Super Target on Bruce B. Downs. Fresh bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee, basically everything you need to survive the morning school run or a long commute.

Rodizio Grill – Now open, but still fresh enough to mention. Brazilian steakhouse vibes with endless skewers of meat, grilled pineapple, and gaucho flair.

Hooters – Opening later this summer next to Tampa Premium Outlets. Expect wings, sports, and tank tops. You know the drill.

Portillo’s – Coming soon to the Wesley Chapel Town Center area. Known for Chicago-style dogs, Italian beef, and crinkle-cut fries that are dangerously addictive.

Tallo Restaurant & Bar – Soft-opened this summer at Avalon Park with Caribbean-American fusion cuisine, cocktails, and weekend vibes.
