Science Fiction, Right Here in Our Backyard
USF’s Engineering Expo brings futuristic tech and hands-on innovation to Tampa Bay
If it feels like the future is speeding up, you’re not imagining it. And this weekend, you didn’t have to go far to see it. At the University of South Florida, thousands showed up for the annual Engineering Expo, where science fiction felt a little more like reality.

One of the biggest highlights was a robotic catapult controlled entirely by brain signals. Visitors wore a headset, focused, and watched the machine respond in real time. No buttons. No controls. Just thought turning into action.
Across campus, more than 80 exhibits featured everything from self-driving vehicles and drones to advanced robotics and hands-on experiments. There were even student-built race cars and interactive displays that made science feel less like a subject and more like something you can actually experience.
The goal isn’t just to impress. It’s to inspire.
The expo gives students a real look at what careers in science, technology, engineering, and math can look like, and for many, it’s the kind of experience that sticks.
For Wesley Chapel families, it’s a reminder the future isn’t happening somewhere else. It’s being built right here in Tampa Bay.

Wesley Chapel’s Next Hangout Spot Is Almost Here
The Hub at Lexington will bring dining, events, and entertainment to Wesley Chapel

If it feels like Wesley Chapel keeps adding more places to eat, hang out, and spend time, you’re not wrong.
And now, another one is almost here.
The Hub at Lexington is getting close to opening, and it’s shaping up to be more than just another shopping plaza. It’s being built as a full dining and entertainment destination designed to bring people together.
Located near Lexington Oaks and just off I-75, the development will feature around 40,000 square feet of space filled with restaurants, local businesses, and gathering areas.
But what makes it different is the focus on experience.
Think outdoor spaces, a central courtyard, and a layout designed for people to actually stick around, not just grab food and leave.
Plans also include live music, pop-up markets, and seasonal events, turning it into more of a community hangout than a traditional retail center.
And that’s really the point.
As Wesley Chapel continues to grow, so does the demand for places that feel local, social, and built for more than just convenience.
For families in the area, it means another option for a night out. For small businesses, it’s a chance to be part of something designed around community, not just foot traffic.
The Hub isn’t fully open just yet, but it’s getting close.
And when it does, it won’t just be another place to go.
It’ll be a place to stay.
